One of the things that I love about photography is the fact that it allows us to capture in images, and in our memories, sights that we might otherwise lose almost as soon as we move past them. And, every once in awhile little gifts come along in the form of incredible sights that demand to be photographed, and engrained in our memory banks. I think this amazing view of Los Angeles was one such occasion.
I've flown into LAX many times in the past and have always been struck by the awesome view of the city and downtown LA. But, in all the times I've flown into LAX, I have never before seen a view of the city like this. This was the view of LA from a Delta Airlines flight in April, 2019. Maura and I were on our way to Hawaii where she was scheduled to give two talks in Honolulu before we headed over to Maui to celebrate her birthday.
In this photo, I love the way the clouds appear to be rolling away to reveal the amazing LA skyline as we fly past. And I love the fact that I was able to capture the Hollywood sign in the background.
I feel pretty lucky that I happened to look up from the book I was reading at just the right time. I was so blown away by the view that I almost failed to get my camera in time to get the settings right and take the photo. I hope that you like it as much as I do.
